Bobby Hebert

Bobby left as a champion on the football field and returned as a hero on the air replacing the legendary Buddy D April 18, 2005. And, history did repeat itself, Hebert  has led WWL to a ratings championship -- SportsTalk is the #1 rated talk show in their time slot. The secret?  Sports fans love Bobby. Players and coaches respect Bobby. Networks seek out Bobby’s opinions. The “Cajun Cannon" is right at home on the BIG 870.  He’s naturally upbeat and down to earth. Bobby’s a man’s man, a woman’s dream and a kid’s role model. The end game -- cutting-edge SportsTalk with great guests, positive energy and lots of sizzle.  And, if you think the Cannon can only talk football—check yourself.  Bobby knows hoops, college sports, NASCAR -- and don’t ask him a history question.

So, who is this “Cajun Cannon?" Bobby Joseph Hebert Jr., was born in Cajun country -- Galliano -- Lafourche Parish, Louisiana.  He played professionally in the USFL and the NFL from 1983 to 1996 for the Michigan Panthers, Oakland Invaders, New Orleans Saints and Atlanta Falcons.  Analysts agree that Hebert had one of the greatest careers for a quarterback in the USFL.  In 1983, the league’s inaugural season, Bobby led the Panthers to the USFL championship.  But, it’s as #3 -- the star quarterback of the Saints -- that Bobby won the hearts and respect of the most passionate fans in football. In 1991 Bobby Hebert led the Saints to their first playoff appearance in franchise history. Ditto in 1992.  In 1993 he became a “flying Falcon" and made the Pro Bowl in 1994 and 1995.  He’s remembered for being on the cover of Sports Illustrated.  Bobby Hebert was inducted into the Saints Hall of Fame in 1999 and the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame in 2000.  And, for all of you NEW New Orleanians, his surname is pronounced “AY-BARE."  And, yes, the TV sitcom Seinfeld did devote an entire episode to George’s fascination with the pronunciation of Bobby’s last name.

Bobby has four children - daughters Ryan and Cammy and sons T-Bob and Bo. T-Bob signed up with the LSU Tigers in 2007.

On December 2, 2006 Bobby Hebert was honored by the City of Natchitoches where he attended college at Northwestern State University, as the grand marshal of the annual Christmas lighting event.
