April 15th is a big day for two reasons in Louisiana. Of course its federal tax day and it's also the time the LSU baseball team usually kicks it into high gear for a long postseason run. Starting on April 21st last year, LSU won 10 of 11 to move into first place in the SEC West. The Tigers, who lost 19 games last year, only suffered five defeats after April 15th.

Tigers push spring practice to Monday - name former LSU QB as TE coach
Steve Ensminger, a former starting quarterback for LSU, has been named the school's tight ends coach, head coach Les Miles announced on Thursday. Ensminger, a 1982 graduate of LSU, played quarterback for the Tigers under head coach Charlie McClendon from 1976-79. Ensminger played in three bowl games at LSU and has followed that by coaching in 10 bowl games as an assistant.

LSU paid Tulane $700,000 to end the football series between the two schools. That's according to LSU associate athletic director Verge Ausberry. Tulane gave up the last six games of a 10-game home-and-home series that ends in Tiger Stadium on Oct. 31. I certainly enjoyed the victory. Winning is the key piece. I think any time you play imperfectly, and you come to the post-game, you have to recognize that first things first. You’d much rather win than do any other thing that we got, so that being said, I think we have to play better.

As of right now, we’re looking really good. Our defense gave us a lot of opportunities to be on the field. We’re looking to excel week after week. Personally for me, I learned a lot from last week. Last week it was the defense that LSU fans were complaining about, this week it will be the offense. But at least LSU got the win, beating the Vanderbilt Commodores 23 to 9. LSU had 232 total yards in the first half, with a balanced attack of 122 yards on the ground and 110 through the air. But the second half was a different story as the Tigers could only muster 94 yards of total offense.

No. 11 LSU wears down scrappy Vanderbilt, 23-9
Keiland Williams proved to be enough to power the LSU offense, which has yet to hit high gear. Williams rushed for 72 yards and LSU's only two touchdowns in a 23-9 victory over Vanderbilt on a rain-soaked Saturday night. The Commodores (1-1, 0-1 Southeastern Conference) trailed by only one touchdown midway through the fourth quarter as they attempted to win in Tiger Stadium for the first time since 1951.

LSU band to be inducted into Hall of Fame
The Louisiana State University Tiger Band is set to be inducted this weekend into the Louisiana Music Hall of Fame _ the only college marching band to receive such an honor. The band, known as the "Golden Band from Tigerland," had a fight song written by Louisiana Gov. Huey Long and had an internationally known jazz orchestra leader, Castro Carazo, as its band director.
